Safeguarding statement

Every child in our care matters. This page is a public summary of how we keep children safe — the full safeguarding policy is available to parents and carers on request.

Our commitment

Mary is Ofsted-registered and holds an Enhanced DBS check. She maintains current certificates in Safeguarding & Child Protection, Paediatric First Aid, and Food Safety. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage statutory framework and the Islington Safeguarding Children Partnership procedures.

What we do

  • Any adult regularly in contact with the children in our care is DBS-checked
  • Safeguarding training is refreshed every two years, paediatric first aid every three
  • Careful procedures cover nappy changing, photography, intimate care and any one-to-one time
  • Accidents and incidents are logged in writing and shared with parents the same day
  • Risk assessments cover the home setting, outings, food preparation and the Westbourne toddler group
  • Children's images are never shared online without written parental consent

Raising a concern

If you have a concern about a child's welfare or safety:

  1. Speak to Mary directly, in person or via the contact form. Most concerns are best handled this way and we'll act on them immediately.
  2. If your concern is about Mary herself or about the setting, contact the Islington Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) on 020 7527 8066 or lado@islington.gov.uk.
  3. You can always contact Ofsted's concerns line on 0300 123 1231 or report online at gov.uk/ofsted.
  4. In an emergency where a child is at immediate risk, call 999.

Confidentiality

Concerns are taken seriously and handled in confidence as far as possible. The welfare of the child is always the overriding consideration — in some cases information must be shared with statutory agencies even without consent.

Whistleblowing

Anyone — parent, child, family member, or other professional — can raise a concern about safeguarding without fear of repercussion. We take whistleblowing seriously.
